Final thoughts of the month

This was an interesting month. I started with absolutely NO idea what I would end up doing, and ended up with an interesting concept (well I think so anyway). Though I feel like I could have gone further with my idea (in theory).

Although I watched several speedpaints of Qinni's I definitely didn't do it the same way she did, as I made my initial drawing a bit too detailed so when I was painting I tried to paint OVER the detail which from what I saw Qinni didn't need to do by having the pencil work be simpler and her detail coming from the colours.

The colours are definitely something I COULD have done more with had I given myself enough time (due to some things out of my control but also a degree of procrastination I ended up rushing the painting somewhat), as I did some build up but wish I had done it more gradually.

My linework is also something that you can see I was able to do pretty well in smaller sections (the nose and tears) but did a bit too thick for longer sections. This shows that I needed a smaller sized piece of paper and more concentration on the line work.

I am happy with the vibrancy of my piece, and that I was able to make it look like my own and not just a knock off Qinni picture, my natural drawing style leans more towards the cartoony anyway so I think that made it easier in some ways but in other ways made it harder to make it look different to my 'generic' style.

I'm glad I did the practise pictures so I felt more confident in my colour choices, though I think I should have considered negative space more as I think the thorns and the dragon are too close together so blend a little bit too much (something to keep in mind!)

I'm not AS proud of this piece as last months, probably because last month's piece was much more ambitious and personal (I care deeply about the loss of language but I wasn't literally depicting myself and my cats) and I think I pushed myself more. So I will try to stray more away from my comfort zone as I think the final results will be more rewarding if I do.
