Sketching ideas

So, to start off with I decided to sketch some drawings based on daffodil specimens (which I got fromthis website). Here are the pictures I used as reference (including a sketch by Dean William Herbert from 1847):

And here are the drawings that I did:

I tried to style my drawings but with more colours (unfortunately the photos wash the colour out a bit)

I then did my preparation for my final piece, which will be a collage

Lineart of pressed daffdoils
Unfortunately the lineart is a bit washed out but you should be able to see I've taken inspiration from my sketches

This showed me that I need a better cutting appliance, I thought my old scissors would be fine but the choppy edges prove otherwise. My final piece will have painted aspects but I just needed a proof of concept for the initial stage, I think (much like painting) that layering will be required.

How the process is going

Process is going okay I think? Have been ill this month which has pushed things back annoyingly, also needing to buy coloured card slowed me down (I didn't have any on hand like I did with the paint). I think I should get this done by the end of the month, touch wood!

Anything I have learnt

I have learnt that collage is very fiddly and that to get a good shape plan that drawing an outline is very helpful (my intial flowers/stems were too big for the card they were on because I didn't scale properly). Prepping is the key!
